Replaced with this:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

It’s a 2014 Cooper S hardtop. The LEAF decided to stop charging using the J1772 port and probably needed a new on- board charger ($2600). The dealer made me a good offer even with the disclosed issue.

The LEAF was always going to be my daughter’s first car as I have the GTI and needless to say she is much happier with this choice.

So for the first time in over six years we will not have something with a plug in our stable. The first gen LEAF was great for it’s time and I will miss it. I expect I will have another EV sooner rather than later as there are many compelling new products on the horizon.

Oooh very nice. Would you consider a Bolt?

Other than the recent charging issue, did you encounter any other issues with the Leaf?

I approve this choice.

Very nice. I got to spend a few hours with a 2018 five door earlier.

I prefer the three door for the looks but the five door for ease of getting into the back. Though the five door doesn’t have much legroom.

The battery degraded to the point that it was replaced under warranty in June of 2017. Beyond that, no real issues until now. If you can live with the range and get a good enough deal, the LEAF can’t be beat for the value. The on-board charger is a known issue and I probably could have petitioned Nissan for some goodwill as the original owner, but I was in the mood for something different.

The Bolt is well executed engineering wise, but the styling leaves a lot to be desired. It is also pricey for what you get. If I just wanted an all around car and k new I would keep it for the next ten years, the Bolt would be a good choice. Chevy should have made it look more like the Cruze hatch.

It’s mainly for my daughter to commute to high school. Hopefully the tight back seat keep the number of passengers to  a minimum.

Brown, (small) wagon. Neat!

Is it a stick shift?

Interesting, and good to know.

I keep thinking it would be hilarious to get a Leaf, and chop the back to turn it into a tiny pickup truck.  Some guys from Nissan did it as a team building exercise, and it’d take care of two of my vehicular needs: a small electric commuter car, and a pickup truck. :P
